High above the quiet garden, the moonlight slipped between branches heavy with ripe figs. A faint flutter broke the still air as a Greater Short-Nosed Fruit Bat glided in, guided by scent rather than sight. The bat hovered briefly, sniffing the sweet aroma, then settled upside-down beneath a perfect fig. With surprising delicacy, it tore into the soft fruit, savoring each bite. Juice glistened on its fur as seeds scattered to the ground—future fig trees planted by accident . Unaware of its role as a gardener of the night, the little bat fed until satisfied, then disappeared into the darkness, carrying the forest’s future in its tiny jaws.
