'유키무시'라고 하는 지독한 벌레를 만나 꽤 고생하기도 했고, 완벽하게 세팅하고 촬영한 장면이 아니기 때문에 다소 어지럽기도 하지만, 마음의 일렁거림이 제법 담겨졌다고 생각해 좋아하는 사진입니다. This is probably the autumn scenery we’ll soon encounter. I didn’t particularly like autumn, but as I’ve accumulated memories of enjoying the scenery and spending time with people I cherish, I’ve grown to love it. I took this photo when I traveled alone to Hokkaido, and I felt a sense of "An Enchanted Realm," which inspired me to name it "Holgyeong (惚境)." I had quite a hard time dealing with a pesky insect called "Yukimushi," and since the scene wasn’t perfectly set up for the shoot, it might seem a bit chaotic. Around 2016-17, I found myself to be going through a serious mental health crisis, navigating through depression, anxiety and being diagnosed with OCD because of some resurfaced childhood trauma. Soon enough I had to be admitted to a rehabilitation center and put on medicines to recover, and couldn't really see myself living my life beyond my early 20s. As I was homebound during these phases, Self-portraiture came to me as a way of trying to find stillness and meaning within all the chaos of my life through these years. It became a means of reconnecting with myself and my body and mind. It was kind of a reassurance of my existence when I felt that I had lost myself. I was in the jungles of India and travelling in an open top jeep as usual. On a small bumpy road we saw a deer running and jumping across the road about 5 yards in front of us. We kept driving and suddenly we see that a Tiger was chasing the Deer and as our jeep reached that point - the Tiger was in his stride to jump across the road in an attempt to catch the deer. The Tiger stopped as soon as he saw our jeep in his path. If we were even half a second late - the TIger may not have been able to stop and likely would have leapt - probably landing in our jeep. He stopped in time - he sat and stared at us for a while and then walked away from the jeep. We waited in the area - and the Tiger also staye din the vicinity - sitting for a bit and then walking around.
