As an international student, I exist within a carefully constructed fiction: the "well-being" I report to my family back home. This series documents the cost of that silence. Through my lens, the abstract weight of anxiety, depression, and frustration is given form. These images serve as a visual bridge between my hidden reality and the outside world—a language for the unspeakable. By revealing the fractured soul behind the facade, I invite the viewer to find their own echoes in my silence.           <title><![CDATA[A Language Beyond Words  Chiang Mai taught me that the deepest conversations do not always depend on perfect language.  I met this man one morning at the local markets, surrounded by the sounds of vendors calling out and the smell of fresh fruit and street food in the air. We sat together as strangers for ten minutes that felt timeless. He spoke no English, and I spoke only basic Thai, just enough for simple conversation, yet somehow we shared something far deeper.  Through gestures, smiles, laughter, and patient listening, we spoke about life, family, and the beauty of everyday moments. I love overcoming language barriers, and Thailand has shown me how powerful human connection can be when both people are willing to meet halfway   The Thai people carry a rare kindness that is gentle, open, and endlessly welcoming.           <title><![CDATA[This portrait is a part of series of photographs that I shot while on an assignment for the ‘Chinar Corps’.  Our itinerary included a village in the deeper ends of Kashmir. I was drawn to the daily life of the locals, how they travelled across the village and beyond, and their seemingly vanishing connectivity to the outside world.   Among the many faces that I saw, this gentleman drew my attention. His quiet demeanor and slow movements welcomed me to look at the daily life of his village through his eyes. There was something about his presence, warm and welcoming, yet deeply reserved. In my attempts to not be overbearing, I was able to break through and had the longest conversation with him and I forgot about trying to find other villagers. I have no regrets about it as his point of view stayed with me and I plan to take it with me.  It was his matured yet innocent expression that stayed with me. He had forgotten to smile in all his years of living in the village. Whenever I shoot portraits, I try to lighten the moment to make sure I get the most authentic expression from the subject. But with him, it felt like I would lie to the world if I did that. It, perhaps seemed unnecessary.  His face carried a calm intrigue, still, composed, and full of unspoken stories.           <title><![CDATA[This photograph was taken in 2019 in South Iceland during a road trip to celebrate turning thirty that year. Back then, it didn’t just mark a birthday, but also a personal milestone, one that was of pausing, reflecting, and choosing to step into a new decade with curiosity and courage. This image wasn’t easy to capture. Iceland is known for its powerful winds, and flying a drone against those winds meant that the drone's battery would drain much more quickly. I quickly realised that flying harder was not the way to go, and that I had to think differently. Instead of forcing my way through the wind, I had to allow the wind to work with me. So I landed the drone, hopped into the car with my friends, and drove nearly two kilometres ahead before launching my drone again, allowing the winds to guide me as I surveyed the landscape. By then, a storm was approaching, and I felt a strong sense of urgency, but I knew I had to stay focused and calm. Then this river stood out amongst the smaller streams, carving its way into the distance. In that moment, I knew I had to find the right composition. After capturing the shot, I felt an immense sense of satisfaction and elation. Not just because I succeeded technically, but because the photograph embodied something deeper. It reminded me to adapt instead of resist, to pause and rethink instead of pushing blindly forward, and that sometimes, working with the forces around us leads to something far more meaningful. | Nicholas]]></title>

          <title><![CDATA[Juliet in the garden, December 2025 By Leonie Freeman  In December 2025 I travelled to Ibiza to photograph a project about the colourful native Ibizan lizard facing extinction due to invasive snakes coming to the island. This lizard is an ancient species and a much loved symbol of the island. In the last decade numbers are down 80%, since snake eggs have been finding their way to Ibiza hidden in the roots of imported olive trees from mainland Spain. The snakes have multiplied hugely in numbers and have been killing and eating the lizards, who have no defence against the snakes. People living on Ibiza are coming together to try and save the beloved lizard, by making snake traps and lizard sanctuaries where hopefully numbers can recover.  I was collaborating with Joanna Hruby, of Theatre of the Ancients, a puppet maker and performance artist. Joanna was putting on a Christmas play about the lizard and snake problem, at Can Cristofol farm. The play was a version of Shakespeare’s Room & Juliet, ‘Un Amor Impossible’…. Or ‘an impossible love’ between two species who can not co-exist on the island. With children dressed in amazing hand make costumes, the feuding families of the original Shakespeare play were instead lizards and snakes.   Juliet, played by Fallon, was Juliet and fell in love with Romeo, a snake. In this portrait we see Fallon as Juliet, photographed at sunset in the orange garden at Can Cristofol. She is gleaming in the golden hour sun and it feels like she is in the garden of Eden.   Shot on Mamiya 645 Pro camera with 45mm Mamiya Sekor lens.
