It’s not where you’d normally go looking for “pretty”, and yet that’s exactly the point: beauty often hides in the least expected places, waiting for us to slow down enough to notice it. The afternoon light was gentle, the bougainvillea was in bloom, and in that stillness, her expression felt even more tender, like a small moment of life whispering back into a space meant for remembrance. For the 2026 Marina Bay Countdown, I stood at the Helix Bridge watching the sky erupt, but I chose to look for the life hidden within the light.  This vertical poster, "Is this a Phoenix?", is a symmetrical re-imagining of that first midnight of 2026. By mirroring the vibrant rainbow fireworks and stacking the architectural icons of Singapore, a mythical silhouette emerged from the data. To some, it is the 'Sovereign Butterfly'—a regal symbol of grace and the quiet metamorphosis into a new and beautiful life. To others, it is a Phoenix rising, fueled by the explosive energy of the city’s celebration.  I chose this title to invite the community to engage with the 'soul' of the image. Whether you see the delicate wings of a butterfly or the fiery ascent of a phoenix, the essence remains the same: a powerful, vertical rise into a new chapter. This piece marks the beginning of a year where we define our own rebirth, spreading our wings over the foundations of the past to soar into a vibrant 2026. | Victor Zhuo]]></title>

          <title><![CDATA[Title: Is this a Phoenix?  Story: How do we visualize a new start? For the 2026 Marina Bay Countdown, I stood at the Helix Bridge watching the sky erupt, but I chose to look for the life hidden within the light.  This vertical poster, "Is this a Phoenix?", is a symmetrical re-imagining of that first midnight of 2026. By mirroring the vibrant rainbow fireworks and stacking the architectural icons of Singapore, a mythical silhouette emerged from the data. To some, it is the 'Sovereign Butterfly'—a regal symbol of grace and the quiet metamorphosis into a new and beautiful life. To others, it is a Phoenix rising, fueled by the explosive energy of the city’s celebration.  I chose this title to invite the community to engage with the 'soul' of the image. Whether you see the delicate wings of a butterfly or the fiery ascent of a phoenix, the essence remains the same: a powerful, vertical rise into a new chapter. This piece marks the beginning of a year where we define our own rebirth, spreading our wings over the foundations of the past to soar into a vibrant 2026. | Victor Zhuo]]></title>

She has always said that her hands are ugly. Growing up in poverty, she had to help with farming from a very young age. Years of hard labor and heavy housework have left marks on her hands that time cannot erase. But to me, these are the hands I am deeply grateful for— the hands that held me and protected me as I grew up. In Tainan, one can truly feel the free and easygoing spirit of its people. 2022 was a pivotal year, marking the transition as the COVID-19 pandemic began to ease and life started returning to normalcy. It was a year when we cautiously ventured outdoors, yet bravely reclaimed our joy in exploring the world. The elderly man on his bicycle reminds me of myself stepping out with a camera; wearing a mask, he reaches out to embrace a sliver of light. The dark alleyway mirrors the suppressed life under the pandemic, yet we knew with certainty that this darkness was coming to an end. As someone as unique as you are, you must know that no matter how dark your surroundings or life may seem, the shadows will eventually fade if you dare to step forward.
