After a full week of work, sport, and house chores, I find incredible happiness in going for a solo exploration of the vegan pastry shops in town. At the counter, I take my time to decide on the dessert that matches my day vibes. Then, when it arrives, I savor every little piece with wonder: what are the ingredients of the sponge, which spices were used, and how is the custard made? I feel lucky and happy to be able to eat a delicious treat that is good for me and for the planet, without hurting the animals. When it is time to leave the shop, I feel recharged with positive vibes, grateful, and ready to take on what the next week has in store for me. Each boat ride is physically demanding, as the boats are hand-rowed and the total distance spans just over a kilometer. It was early morning when this 6–8-week-old lion cub wanted to leave the bush to play with its sibling. Each time they wandered too far, their mother would lift her head and call them back. The cycle repeated multiple times, testing boundaries and her patience. This moment was captured when one cub refused to listen. Instead of calling again, the mother walked over and lifted her cub, carrying it back to safety. What drew me to this festival was not just the explosion of turmeric in the air, but the faith behind it. Thousands of devotees gather, chanting and covering everything in yellow as a symbol of devotion, hope, and gratitude for a good agricultural season. At the heart of the festival sits Sri Keloba Rajabau Waghmode, lovingly called the “Old Man,” under a banyan tree. People throw haldi over him and seek his blessings. He is believed to be a messenger of God, someone who predicts rain, farming conditions, and the community’s future. Through my photographs, I wanted to capture more than color I wanted to show belief, tradition, and the emotional connection between people and ritual. One challenge was working in dense turmeric clouds, protecting my gear while staying present in the moment.
