The recurrent presence of the furin bells would evoke a feeling of delicate melancholy, a warm breeze on the skin, a soft smile from a loved person. I was walking in Ueno Park this summer and found myself in the most dreamy location I have ever been to. The lotus flowers, the furins, the warm summery air, the laughs of lovers taking a stroll in the park. When I took this photo, I wasn’t just trying to capture a train. I was trying to capture a feeling. I’m always drawn to moments that look cinematic, but more importantly, moments that can tell a story by themselves. In this image, the train becomes more than transportation. For me, it represents hope. The hope that this journey might lead to something better. The hope that stepping forward could bring us closer to our dreams. But hope is never simple. There’s always fear standing right beside it. Fear of leaving what’s familiar. Fear of the unknown. What drew me to this festival was not just the explosion of turmeric in the air, but the faith behind it. Thousands of devotees gather, chanting and covering everything in yellow as a symbol of devotion, hope, and gratitude for a good agricultural season. At the heart of the festival sits Sri Keloba Rajabau Waghmode, lovingly called the “Old Man,” under a banyan tree. People throw haldi over him and seek his blessings. He is believed to be a messenger of God, someone who predicts rain, farming conditions, and the community’s future. Through my photographs, I wanted to capture more than color I wanted to show belief, tradition, and the emotional connection between people and ritual. One challenge was working in dense turmeric clouds, protecting my gear while staying present in the moment. I was in the jungles of India and travelling in an open top jeep as usual. On a small bumpy road we saw a deer running and jumping across the road about 5 yards in front of us. We kept driving and suddenly we see that a Tiger was chasing the Deer and as our jeep reached that point - the Tiger was in his stride to jump across the road in an attempt to catch the deer. The Tiger stopped as soon as he saw our jeep in his path. If we were even half a second late - the TIger may not have been able to stop and likely would have leapt - probably landing in our jeep. He stopped in time - he sat and stared at us for a while and then walked away from the jeep. We waited in the area - and the Tiger also staye din the vicinity - sitting for a bit and then walking around.
