A young boy sits absorbed in his own world, momentarily separated from the noise and movement of everyday life around him. The scene reflects the small spaces of stillness that exist even within busy environments.  Using black and white allows the image to focus on mood, light, and emotion rather than colour. The contrast between shadow and light highlights the boy’s concentration while the surrounding darkness frames the moment, creating a sense of calm and introspection.           <title><![CDATA[Living in Happyland  In 2019, I spent a weekend in Aroma, Tondo, Manila — an informal settlement often known as Happyland. The name comes from Hapilan, meaning dump site, a reminder of the harsh environment the community lives in.   I was invited by a friend who runs a shelter for boys in the area. During my time there, I met children and families living in extreme poverty, many relying on scavenging at nearby dump sites to survive. Yet what stayed with me was not just the hardship, but the warmth of the people. I was welcomed openly, with laughter, curiosity, and generosity that felt deeply sincere.   As a photographer, I struggled with how to tell this story. Rather than focusing only on deprivation, I chose to document moments of hope — the smiles, friendships, and quiet resilience of everyday life. The children spoke freely about their dreams of becoming nurses, engineers, and software developers, believing strongly in a future beyond their present circumstances.   This experience reshaped my understanding of happiness, showing me how dignity, community, and hope endure even in the most difficult places. | Victor Tan KH]]></title>

But look a little longer, and you’ll notice there are actually two acts of seeing happening. On the left, the photographer crouches, framing, deciding, directing. On the right, the subject stands in the light but she is composed, almost architectural herself. Yet, she isn’t passive. The way she leans into the wall, the tilt of the hat, the choice to face away — she shapes the image just as much. So who is in control? The photographer chooses where to stand, when to press the shutter. But the subject chooses how to exist within that moment: what to reveal, what to withhold.           <title><![CDATA[This work documents the vibrant Vittal Birdev Yatra, also known as the Yellow Festival, celebrated in Pattan Kodoli near Kolhapur, Maharashtra. What drew me to this festival was not just the explosion of turmeric in the air, but the faith behind it. Thousands of devotees gather, chanting and covering everything in yellow as a symbol of devotion, hope, and gratitude for a good agricultural season.  At the heart of the festival sits Sri Keloba Rajabau Waghmode, lovingly called the “Old Man,” under a banyan tree. People throw haldi over him and seek his blessings. He is believed to be a messenger of God, someone who predicts rain, farming conditions, and the community’s future.  Through my photographs, I wanted to capture more than color I wanted to show belief, tradition, and the emotional connection between people and ritual. One challenge was working in dense turmeric clouds, protecting my gear while staying present in the moment. Going forward, I want to continue documenting such cultural stories that reflect India’s deep rooted heritage and living traditions. | Streetwala]]></title>

          <title><![CDATA[This photograph is part of Gulabi, a documentary series named after my grandmother, capturing the quiet rhythms of her life in her modest home in Udupi, Karnataka, India. At ninety, her presence held both fragility and strength — a living archive of memory, resilience, and grace. In this frame, she sits in stillness while a small cat rests on her shoulder, an unspoken companionship that softens the solitude often associated with aging. The gesture is simple, yet deeply human — care expressed without words.  Gulabi took her last breath in February 2025. This image, and the series as a whole, is one I return to often. It fills me with quiet pride to know that her presence will continue to live on through these photographs for years to come.  The series reflects on aging as a state of dignity rather than decline. It invites us to reconsider what we overlook: the beauty of routine, the intimacy of silence, and the emotional landscapes contained within everyday life.  Moving forward, I hope to continue exploring themes of human consciousness and intergenerational spiritual connection.           <title><![CDATA[Some views stay with you for quiet reasons. For me, Fukuoka’s rivers are one of them.  This was taken on a very bright day, and normally I would have left it out. The light was hard, the water was reflective, and the scene did not seem especially easy to use. After editing it with a warmer, softer tone, it started to feel closer to the way I remember this part of the city.  The boats, the small floats, the water, the people working by the river, and the city moving into evening all say something about Fukuoka. Not in a loud way, but in the way the city often does: through small scenes, local routines, and a culture that sits close to the water.  強く印象に残る景色には、静かな理由があると思います。 私にとって、福岡の川はそのひとつです。  この写真を撮った日はかなり明るく、普段なら候補から外していたと思います。光は強く、水面の反射も目立ち、扱いやすい一枚ではありませんでした。ただ、暖かくやわらかいトーンに整えることで、この場所を見た時の記憶に少し近づきました。  船、小さな舟、水辺で働く人たち、夕方へ向かう街の気配。どれも派手ではありませんが、福岡らしさがあると思います。この街の文化は、日常の小さな動きや、水辺に近い暮らしの中に静かに残っている気がします。  오래 남는 풍경에는 조용한 이유가 있다고 생각합니다. 저에게 후쿠오카의 강은 그런 장소 중 하나입니다.  이 사진을 찍은 날은 햇빛이 꽤 강했습니다. 평소라면 후보에서 제외했을 장면입니다. 빛도 강했고, 수면 반사도 뚜렷해서 다루기 쉬운 사진은 아니었습니다. 그래도 따뜻하고 부드러운 톤으로 정리하니, 제가 이곳을 볼 때 느꼈던 기억에 조금 가까워졌습니다.  배, 강가에 묶인 작은 배들, 물가에서 일하는 사람들, 저녁으로 넘어가는 도시의 분위기. 특별히 화려한 장면은 아니지만, 후쿠오카다운 느낌이 있습니다. 이 도시의 문화는 일상의 작은 움직임과 물가에 가까운 생활 속에 조용히 남아 있는 것 같습니다. | Zelliphoto]]></title>
