Every direction offers distraction. Nothing wants to stay quiet.  This photograph emerged from the challenge of seeing through that visual noise. The abundance of umbrellas and architectural clutter made it difficult to establish a clear subject. By isolating a single rainbow umbrella within the chaos, the image finds its anchor. Color becomes the language of focus, cutting through complexity and guiding the eye.  The result is not just documentation of a street art installation, but a reflection of the street photographer’s pursuit: to impose order on disorder, to wait for clarity within clutter, and to reveal meaning by choosing what to exclude. As an international student, I exist within a carefully constructed fiction: the "well-being" I report to my family back home. This series documents the cost of that silence. Through my lens, the abstract weight of anxiety, depression, and frustration is given form. These images serve as a visual bridge between my hidden reality and the outside world—a language for the unspeakable. By revealing the fractured soul behind the facade, I invite the viewer to find their own echoes in my silence.           <title><![CDATA[I was initially drawn to the visual harmony in the background: a woman in black-and-white walking her dog, their outfits matching with a deliberate aesthetic and symmetry.   But the street has a way of interrupting. In the foreground, an auto-rickshaw driver had dropped his pants, re-tucking his shirt. A gesture of professional pride performed with total indifference to the public eye.  While one half of the street is conscious of how they are seen, the other is simply existing in the thick of a long workday. It also got me questioning that "decency" is often a matter of perspective; for the driver, he wasn't exposing himself, he was simply preparing for his next fare. | Shikhar Bafna]]></title>

Something about the moment felt visually striking the crowd, the street, and his calm presence moving through the chaos.  Instinctively, I stepped into the middle of the road, framed the scene, and took the shot just as he approached. It was a very spontaneous photograph, captured in a split second. Her gold-plated Vedhla earrings and red tie-dyed saree reflect a living heritage that continues to exist within contemporary India.  I intentionally chose a frame that conceals her face. The absence of identity shifts attention toward texture, tradition, light, and ritual rather than individuality. The golden sunlight interacting with wet skin and tribal markings transforms a simple act of prayer into a timeless visual narrative. Each trail is a journey, a fleeting moment of someone chasing a destination, a dream, or simply tomorrow. In contrast, the illuminated structure remains calm and composed, as if quietly observing the city’s endless rhythm.  This photograph becomes a dialogue between permanence and impermanence. The building represents memory, identity, and the weight of the past, while the flowing lights symbolize the urgency of the present and the uncertainty of the future. In a rapidly modernising city, tailoring has quietly become a fading craft, often overlooked and undervalued. Through this series, I hope to draw attention back to these artisans who have spent decades honing their skill.  The visual approach focuses on raw, intimate details—the worn textures of an ageing tailoring shop, the quiet stillness of the space, and the lines etched on her face. These elements are not signs of decline, but of experience, resilience, and mastery. Every crease and surface tells a story of time, patience, and dedication to a craft that once held greater prominence.  As society shifts toward technology and more “advanced” professions, traditional trades like tailoring risk being forgotten. This project is an attempt to pause, observe, and appreciate the hands that continue to create, repair, and sustain.
