It was early morning when this 6–8-week-old lion cub wanted to leave the bush to play with its sibling. Each time they wandered too far, their mother would lift her head and call them back. The cycle repeated multiple times, testing boundaries and her patience. This moment was captured when one cub refused to listen. Instead of calling again, the mother walked over and lifted her cub, carrying it back to safety. He must intriguing who I was. Barely seen asian in middle of Kenya, and who has a machine gun type camera in his hand and walking with bunch of group of white people. I must be so strange to his eye. He must want to know more about me. He kept fallow me until I finally stop by one of host. I was looking around and here he is. I finally have eye contacted with him, and my finger couldn't resist not to do. My finger start to push shutter and got his eye. The eyes with curious and wondering. To me, he is just one of the kids I have met in Kenya, but to him, I became one of his memorable guy in his life. I hope I can remember this moment very long time.... Around 2016-17, I found myself to be going through a serious mental health crisis, navigating through depression, anxiety and being diagnosed with OCD because of some resurfaced childhood trauma. Soon enough I had to be admitted to a rehabilitation center and put on medicines to recover, and couldn't really see myself living my life beyond my early 20s. As I was homebound during these phases, Self-portraiture came to me as a way of trying to find stillness and meaning within all the chaos of my life through these years. It became a means of reconnecting with myself and my body and mind. It was kind of a reassurance of my existence when I felt that I had lost myself.
