During my time in Japan, I often photographed people on the street using slow shutter speeds. One evening, just before the end of the workday, I encountered an office worker standing at a crosswalk, momentarily lost in thought. Through the use of a slow shutter, the atmosphere of his working life was gently softened, rendered a little lighter, and less heavy than it might have felt in reality.
