Here in urban Singapore, we have the 3rd largest species of deer in world (Sambar deer/Rusa unicolor). They occasionally venture out to areas near roads, to feed on vegetation that grows outside of the secondary forests. Unseen by many, these shy creatures prefer to avoid human encounters as they feed throughout the night. As responsible motorists/cyclists, we can all make an effort to observe a safe speed, while on roads flanking the central catchment area. One of my favorite things to do whenever I’m there is to photograph the older side of the city, the one I was born and raised in. When people think of Dubai, they often picture skyscrapers and luxury, but there’s so much more to the city beyond that image. This photo shows an abra which is a small wooden boat used to ferry people across the creek. It’s a simple, everyday mode of transport that many people don’t discover until they experience the city firsthand.
