Through elaborate costumes, ritual movement, and acts involving fire, the performer embodies a divine presence, blurring the line between human and deity. Made in the midst of intense heat, smoke, and a tightly packed crowd, this image was created from within the ritual rather than from a distance. The challenge was not only technical but physical—finding space, enduring the heat, and remaining present as sparks and burning embers flew through the air. I chose to exhibit this work because many of India's cultural traditions remain largely unseen outside their local communities. As a photographer, I feel a responsibility to document and share these living histories.
