What began as a frustrating day eventually became one filled with unexpected reunion, laughter, and reflection when childhood friends appeared by chance on the same stretch of shoreline. Looking back, the image feels less like a photograph and more like a memory. The figures stand suspended in a moment in time between the land and the sea, each lost in their own world, while the golden light softens the scene into something timeless. This holiday was memorable for different reasons. Getting to reconnect with my roots and visit family that I hadn’t seen in years. And experiencing Nigeria as an adult for the first time. This would also become the last trip I shared with my grandmother before her passing in 2025. As memories fade and change with time, photographs become anchors. This image is the second piece in the series. At the beginning of this project, I believed freedom meant the absence of restraint—an escape from all forms of binding. However, through the process of creating this work, my understanding of freedom shifted. The body in the image is tethered by ropes, suggesting entanglement with reality, emotion, or fate. Birds circle the sky above, embodying instinct, desire, and untamed movement. A red glow pulses beneath the figure, symbolizing an inner force—caught between suppression and momentum. Freedom, I came to realize, is not defined by being unbound, but by the willingness to move forward despite restraint.
