          <title><![CDATA[Today I want to share this portrait I made at Singapore Japanese Cemetery Park, a place most people associate with quietness and memory. It’s not where you’d normally go looking for “pretty”, and yet that’s exactly the point: beauty often hides in the least expected places, waiting for us to slow down enough to notice it. The afternoon light was gentle, the bougainvillea was in bloom, and in that stillness, her expression felt even more tender, like a small moment of life whispering back into a space meant for remembrance.           <title><![CDATA[In December 2025, I mentored a group of medical students from Lee Kong Chian Medical School on their overseas community involvement project (OCIP) in Kolkata.   Project Kolkata serves women who are currently or formerly in the sex trade. Project Kolkata partners local NGOs to conduct health screenings and health education for these women and their children.   Human trafficking remains a significant problem in India. West Bengal, where Kolkata is the capital and largest city of, ranks consistently at the top of states with the highest number of human trafficking incidents and resulting crime rates. Most of the victims are women and children, transported through the state’s borders of Nepal and Bangladesh, to be recruited into the sex trade. Rather than a mournful event, we celebrated her life and marked a new chapter in our family’s collective memory. She was the last of us to be interred; the rising cost and difficulty of burial mean that those who follow her will not have the same physical anchor. Without the permanence of a grave, future generations risk becoming only faint memories. In this shift, these photographs are meant to do more than just document.           <title><![CDATA[Title: Is this a Phoenix?  Story: How do we visualize a new start? For the 2026 Marina Bay Countdown, I stood at the Helix Bridge watching the sky erupt, but I chose to look for the life hidden within the light.  This vertical poster, "Is this a Phoenix?", is a symmetrical re-imagining of that first midnight of 2026. By mirroring the vibrant rainbow fireworks and stacking the architectural icons of Singapore, a mythical silhouette emerged from the data. To some, it is the 'Sovereign Butterfly'—a regal symbol of grace and the quiet metamorphosis into a new and beautiful life. To others, it is a Phoenix rising, fueled by the explosive energy of the city’s celebration.  I chose this title to invite the community to engage with the 'soul' of the image. Whether you see the delicate wings of a butterfly or the fiery ascent of a phoenix, the essence remains the same: a powerful, vertical rise into a new chapter. This piece marks the beginning of a year where we define our own rebirth, spreading our wings over the foundations of the past to soar into a vibrant 2026. | Victor Zhuo]]></title>

          <title><![CDATA[Feral Grace II: Bound, Yet Willing to Fly  Feral Grace is a photographic series created in 2025, consisting of six works. This image is the second piece in the series.  At the beginning of this project, I believed freedom meant the absence of restraint—an escape from all forms of binding. However, through the process of creating this work, my understanding of freedom shifted.  The body in the image is tethered by ropes, suggesting entanglement with reality, emotion, or fate. Birds circle the sky above, embodying instinct, desire, and untamed movement. A red glow pulses beneath the figure, symbolizing an inner force—caught between suppression and momentum.  Freedom, I came to realize, is not defined by being unbound, but by the willingness to move forward despite restraint.             <media:title><![CDATA[Feral Grace II: Bound, Yet Willing to Fly  Feral Grace is a photographic series created in 2025, consisting of six works. This image is the second piece in the series.  At the beginning of this project, I believed freedom meant the absence of restraint—an escape from all forms of binding. However, through the process of creating this work, my understanding of freedom shifted.  The body in the image is tethered by ropes, suggesting entanglement with reality, emotion, or fate. Birds circle the sky above, embodying instinct, desire, and untamed movement. A red glow pulses beneath the figure, symbolizing an inner force—caught between suppression and momentum.  Freedom, I came to realize, is not defined by being unbound, but by the willingness to move forward despite restraint.           <title><![CDATA[This photograph is part of Gulabi, a documentary series named after my grandmother, capturing the quiet rhythms of her life in her modest home in Udupi, Karnataka, India. At ninety, her presence held both fragility and strength — a living archive of memory, resilience, and grace. In this frame, she sits in stillness while a small cat rests on her shoulder, an unspoken companionship that softens the solitude often associated with aging. The gesture is simple, yet deeply human — care expressed without words.  Gulabi took her last breath in February 2025. This image, and the series as a whole, is one I return to often. It fills me with quiet pride to know that her presence will continue to live on through these photographs for years to come.  The series reflects on aging as a state of dignity rather than decline. It invites us to reconsider what we overlook: the beauty of routine, the intimacy of silence, and the emotional landscapes contained within everyday life.  Moving forward, I hope to continue exploring themes of human consciousness and intergenerational spiritual connection.           <title><![CDATA[This photograph was taken in 2019 in South Iceland during a road trip to celebrate turning thirty that year. Back then, it didn’t just mark a birthday, but also a personal milestone, one that was of pausing, reflecting, and choosing to step into a new decade with curiosity and courage. This image wasn’t easy to capture. Iceland is known for its powerful winds, and flying a drone against those winds meant that the drone's battery would drain much more quickly. I quickly realised that flying harder was not the way to go, and that I had to think differently. Instead of forcing my way through the wind, I had to allow the wind to work with me. So I landed the drone, hopped into the car with my friends, and drove nearly two kilometres ahead before launching my drone again, allowing the winds to guide me as I surveyed the landscape. By then, a storm was approaching, and I felt a strong sense of urgency, but I knew I had to stay focused and calm. Then this river stood out amongst the smaller streams, carving its way into the distance. In that moment, I knew I had to find the right composition. After capturing the shot, I felt an immense sense of satisfaction and elation. Not just because I succeeded technically, but because the photograph embodied something deeper. It reminded me to adapt instead of resist, to pause and rethink instead of pushing blindly forward, and that sometimes, working with the forces around us leads to something far more meaningful. | Nicholas]]></title>

          <title><![CDATA[Juliet in the garden, December 2025 By Leonie Freeman  In December 2025 I travelled to Ibiza to photograph a project about the colourful native Ibizan lizard facing extinction due to invasive snakes coming to the island. This lizard is an ancient species and a much loved symbol of the island. In the last decade numbers are down 80%, since snake eggs have been finding their way to Ibiza hidden in the roots of imported olive trees from mainland Spain. The snakes have multiplied hugely in numbers and have been killing and eating the lizards, who have no defence against the snakes. People living on Ibiza are coming together to try and save the beloved lizard, by making snake traps and lizard sanctuaries where hopefully numbers can recover.  I was collaborating with Joanna Hruby, of Theatre of the Ancients, a puppet maker and performance artist. Joanna was putting on a Christmas play about the lizard and snake problem, at Can Cristofol farm. The play was a version of Shakespeare’s Room & Juliet, ‘Un Amor Impossible’…. Or ‘an impossible love’ between two species who can not co-exist on the island. With children dressed in amazing hand make costumes, the feuding families of the original Shakespeare play were instead lizards and snakes.   Juliet, played by Fallon, was Juliet and fell in love with Romeo, a snake. In this portrait we see Fallon as Juliet, photographed at sunset in the orange garden at Can Cristofol. She is gleaming in the golden hour sun and it feels like she is in the garden of Eden.   Shot on Mamiya 645 Pro camera with 45mm Mamiya Sekor lens.
