It felt like such a rare sight in Singapore to see a vending machine standing in the middle of nowhere, tucked under some of the new HDB flats. In the distance, three people sat quietly on the vast salt flats. Before them stood a mountain range, with the sun slowly descending behind it. Seeing this scene, I instinctively raised my camera and pressed the shutter. What moved me in that moment was the quiet power of nature, its scale, its stillness, and its beauty. Standing there, I felt how small we are in comparison, and how many of the worries we carry in daily life fade when placed against something so immense. But the street has a way of interrupting. In the foreground, an auto-rickshaw driver had dropped his pants, re-tucking his shirt. A gesture of professional pride performed with total indifference to the public eye. While one half of the street is conscious of how they are seen, the other is simply existing in the thick of a long workday.
