The narrow, sloping lanes were crowded with people, making it difficult to find a clear spot to stand. As the procession moved quickly downhill, I had only a split second to frame the shot through my viewfinder. The central figure, wearing a traditional mask and a crown of bright pom-poms, is the heart of the image. Surrounded by local women in their signature Himachali caps, the scene shows the living history of the mountains. I've been there many, many times over the years and every time I visit it feels different : the light changes, the wildlife you see changes and the flora and fauna change too. This time in the evening there is my favourite. You feel the park slowing down, wildlife coming to rest as the light fades through daylight blues to beautiful oranges, yellows and reds. This image was shot at the newly built Jurong Lake Gardens, on the bridge facing towards Cascade Pavilion. Using a full-spectrum converted NEX-6 with a 16mm F2.8 prime lens and an 850nm filter, the result is a high-contrast sky with glowing foliage while the dark roof of the pavilion grounds the composition. Coincidentally, two ladies in dresses happened to be walking through, appearing bright white in the shot and naturally drawing the eye to the centre. The pavilion opening also frames them from within, almost like a screen inside the image.
