escalier et rambarde dans l’arrière d’un salon de coiffure

Someone once told me he never shoots when he is in a bad mood. But this photograph was taken on a day when I was feeling terrible after I had woken late for a photo walk, arrived one hour late, and then fled after just a couple of shots because I was so mortified, and had taken the bus to a familiar, comforting place of my childhood, and at almost noon, determined to take photos anyway. Just before I took this shot, a mother-and-child duo walked past, and the mother told her daughter that it was a bad time to take photos. I took it anyway. I remember as a curious child, climbing on such staircases at the back of my mum's hairdressing salon to visit the elderly man living one floor up to peer into his kitchen. Those were days associated with mystery and excitement, of comfort and nagging, now all mellowed in my 50's. So this photograph was a first in proving to me that the process of photo-taking can be actually very therapeutic, and from these healing journeys, there can be keepers.
