One thing I learnt from Melbourne: A flock is never really doing just one thing. Look closer. Some swim around in the sky's reflection. Some zone out staring into space (which is exactly what I'll do). None of the seagulls asked what the others were doing first. Some of us romanticise belonging, perhaps even more so as Singaporeans. But maybe a healthy flock was never about sameness. It's about balancing proximity and individuality. And I like the idea of that.
