I was in the middle of photographing a model for a fashion shoot when I noticed a man standing nearby, looking back for just a brief moment. Instinctively, I captured the frame and immediately returned to the shoot. That is what I love most about photography — sometimes you simply find yourself in the right place, at the right time, with the right equipment, and a fleeting moment turns into an image that stays. What makes this photograph special to me is its universality. Although it was taken in the port area of Abu Dhabi, the scene feels unbound by geography. Her stories about previous generations of people who lived on our road were fascinating - the lady who lived in the house before her said that, during the war, a bomb dropped in our garden! Sarah used to be part of the Portobello arts scene in the 60's, so understands creative expression. When I suggested a photoshoot she was very much up for it. She was the matriarch of the family of all our families on our road.
