Final year of university. Three best friends. No car, no plan, and jackets that lied about being waterproof. The goal? Reach the lake at Lake District National Park. The reality? The best failed attempt. We rented a tiny cabin on the park’s edge and set off like adventurers… who forgot to read the instructions. We marched through sideways rain, squelchy grass, and somehow… a factory? We climbed hills, jumped questionable fences, greeted sheep like old friends, and pretended we knew where we were going. We never made it to the lake. But we did soak our “waterproof” jackets, barbecue in the rain, and laugh until our faces hurt. Sometimes the best trips aren’t about the destination. They’re about soaking wet socks, smoke in your eyes, and that moment when everyone’s laughing too hard to keep walking. To commemorate Racial Harmony Day, I wanted to do a last minute shoot and told my cousin to plan her outfit 1 hour before the shoot. It turned out to be the perfect combo. With a modern top that has small holes curated into flowers, accommodating to the humidity in Singapore’s weather by providing ventilation and is cooling. Paired with a batik skirt to uphold the traditional outfit of the Malay culture. The picture was taken with a Leica SL3-s, with a 24-70 f2.8 lens using the Cine preset. The soft look and vintage outcome with fits the theme of my shoot. Botanic Gardens was chosen as the contrast of greenery and outfits worn by visitors at the park, always stood out and screams unique to me. You’ll see people running, relaxing or having picnics, wearing different outfits and the contrast is cute and cool. This image was shot at the newly built Jurong Lake Gardens, on the bridge facing towards Cascade Pavilion. Using a full-spectrum converted NEX-6 with a 16mm F2.8 prime lens and an 850nm filter, the result is a high-contrast sky with glowing foliage while the dark roof of the pavilion grounds the composition. Coincidentally, two ladies in dresses happened to be walking through, appearing bright white in the shot and naturally drawing the eye to the centre. The pavilion opening also frames them from within, almost like a screen inside the image.
