At that time, I had just gained access to a studio, and the model and I simply played with light, without a clear plan or expectations. It was an attempt to capture a mood rather than create a specific image. The result was a photograph that remains one of my favorites to this day. The light was sinking fast, turning the sky into a quiet fire. The game had been going on for hours — dust rising, shoes scraping against concrete, laughter mixing with competition. Nothing extraordinary, just boys playing before night took the court back. But something shifted. One of them held the ball differently. His body leaned forward, not to pass, not to hesitate — but to rise. I felt it before it happened. The frame formed in my mind: the jump, the defender’s reach, the sun suspended behind them like a witness. My battery was nearly dead. I did not have time to test, to adjust, to repeat. There would be no second attempt. No correction. Just instinct. I turned the camera on. For a fraction of a second, everything aligned — body, ball, light, horizon. They lifted into the air, and I pressed the shutter once. Then the camera died. The ball would fall. The players would land. The sun would disappear. Through intimate portraiture and conceptual imagery, the project examines the evolving narratives of womanhood. Most of my long-term projects have delved into themes of female, body consciousness and self-perception, incorporating visual textures such as scars, stretch marks, and skin as symbols of growth and transformation. By using natural light, deep contrasts, and experimental compositions, I aim to challenge conventional beauty standards while emphasizing the poetic essence of imperfection. This photograph is one of the works in the ongoing project G-Book. G-Book - MASTERPIECE, STEP BY STEP, YEAR BY YEAR. From the first line to the final session, she returned, healed, and returned again. Working with a master of traditional Taiwanese tattooing, a simple outline grew into a full-back composition. The piece is not only ink on skin, but a ledger of years—discipline, trust, and craft.
