This was one of my very first works, back when I’d just stepped out into the world as an assistant photographer. It means a lot to me, especially now, because this marks my 20th year practicing photography, both as a job and as something I genuinely love. Looking back, this image feels like a reminder of how far I’ve come. Everything was so pure back then, still a little naive. Money mattered, sure, but it was never the source of happiness. I just wanted to shoot. If I didn’t have the budget for models or fancy props, I’d make do with whatever was around in the studio I was working at. Maybe this image didn’t fully make sense to me at that point in time but it does now. That’s what makes it even more meaningful. It sums up what photography has taught me over the years: to stay flexible, adapt, and keep creating no matter the circumstances. | Lousycameraman

I was exploring the city by foot, trying to find my marks and get a feel of my new home. Walking past a camera store, I thought I might as well do that with a camera in my hand. Got my little Fuji, and took that picture that evening. That night, I fell in love with the city and the camera. | Simon

In a way it makes me feel like I am creating my own little movie frame starting from a memory of a scene, with the two ending up intertwining and forming a new "false" memory. Looking at the stern composition and subject of this image, not to mention that it's in black and white, I am fairly certain I was watching a lot of Fellini and Antonioni's classics at the time I took this image. This picture was taken using Kodak Aerofilm on Yashika Electro 35. Aerofilm is a medium- and high-altitude aviation reconnaissance film with a film with a lot of red sticking out. Therefore, I tried to maximize the red color by taking a red apricot with this film. The apricot flower is said to be the first flower to bloom in spring through winter. Therefore, the apricot flower symbolizes incision and noble mind. I thought that the red apricot flower turns red in winter by bleeding from the bitter wind as the white petals of the existing apricot flower bloom. I thought that the red apricot flower was a difficult blooming and extracting red beauty. Even if you look at the red color of the red apricot flower and feel tired and painful now, it would be good to know that the blood you shed now makes you look the most beautiful | umani

I was in the middle of photographing a model for a fashion shoot when I noticed a man standing nearby, looking back for just a brief moment. Instinctively, I captured the frame and immediately returned to the shoot. That is what I love most about photography — sometimes you simply find yourself in the right place, at the right time, with the right equipment, and a fleeting moment turns into an image that stays. What makes this photograph special to me is its universality. Although it was taken in the port area of Abu Dhabi, the scene feels unbound by geography.
This photograph was taken during a collaboration with singer-songwriter Utsavi Jha. At the time, I had stepped away from pursuing photography professionally and had shifted my focus to working as a color grading artist, keeping photography primarily for personal expression. Photographing this moment became more meaningful than I initially expected. I had long admired Utsavi’s music, so having the opportunity to collaborate with her was something I felt deeply grateful for. More importantly, this experience helped me overcome a quiet anxiety I had developed about photographing people in public spaces. What began as a simple collaboration gradually reopened a creative door for me. It reminded me why I was drawn to photographing people in the first place and gave me the confidence to return to it without hesitation. This image, therefore, represents more than a portrait—it marks a personal turning point where photography once again became something I could approach with curiosity and freedom. | Nandan Nabodit

This photograph marks the first friendship I made on my first trip to Japan. This is Ujiie Yoshihiro, owner of Black Sun Jazz Club in Kabukicho, Shinjuku. On my first evening in Shinjuku, I stumbled into his bar by chance. From our very first interaction, it became my local—somewhere I returned to every day. I took his portrait that first night, and it meant so much to him that when I returned to Japan, I made a second portrait. This image will always remind me of the warmth and kindness I experienced in a place I knew nothing about, completely on my own. I always admired Hiro’s pride in his work and the camaraderie he created around him. Hiro, as he likes to be called, welcomed me in on my first night and unknowingly gave me a place to belong. His warmth and kindness, turned a chance encounter into a lasting reason to return. | Kareem Berjaoui

Title: Is this a Phoenix? Story: How do we visualize a new start? For the 2026 Marina Bay Countdown, I stood at the Helix Bridge watching the sky erupt, but I chose to look for the life hidden within the light. This vertical poster, "Is this a Phoenix?", is a symmetrical re-imagining of that first midnight of 2026. By mirroring the vibrant rainbow fireworks and stacking the architectural icons of Singapore, a mythical silhouette emerged from the data. To some, it is the 'Sovereign Butterfly'—a regal symbol of grace and the quiet metamorphosis into a new and beautiful life. To others, it is a Phoenix rising, fueled by the explosive energy of the city’s celebration. I chose this title to invite the community to engage with the 'soul' of the image. Whether you see the delicate wings of a butterfly or the fiery ascent of a phoenix, the essence remains the same: a powerful, vertical rise into a new chapter. This piece marks the beginning of a year where we define our own rebirth, spreading our wings over the foundations of the past to soar into a vibrant 2026. | Victor Zhuo

G-Book is an ongoing photography project that began in 2016, exploring themes of female identity, body consciousness, and self-perception. Through intimate portraiture and conceptual imagery, the project examines the evolving narratives of womanhood. Most of my long-term projects have delved into themes of female, body consciousness and self-perception, incorporating visual textures such as scars, stretch marks, and skin as symbols of growth and transformation. By using natural light, deep contrasts, and experimental compositions, I aim to challenge conventional beauty standards while emphasizing the poetic essence of imperfection. This photograph is one of the works in the ongoing project G-Book. G-Book - MASTERPIECE, STEP BY STEP, YEAR BY YEAR. From the first line to the final session, she returned, healed, and returned again. Working with a master of traditional Taiwanese tattooing, a simple outline grew into a full-back composition. The piece is not only ink on skin, but a ledger of years—discipline, trust, and craft.
