Photography holds great potential as a medium to express depth. Utilizing depth in photography adds dimension and realism, drawing viewers into the world of the artwork.

This time, we will focus on works that emphasize depth through the use of layers. Explore the dimensionality that depth creates through various photographs and discover new perspectives in your creative process.

Juxtaposing Unrelated Subjects

Layered photography involves placing multiple subjects at different distances along the same line, intentionally focusing on one while blurring the other.

These two subjects are often closely related. Conversely, when two unrelated subjects are juxtaposed, it creates a sense of dissonance, prompting the creation of a story to bridge the gap, allowing the subjects to positively influence each other.

Creating Contrast Between Two Subjects

By creating contrast between two subjects, you can add elements to the main subject. For instance, the road at night in the background is complemented by raindrops on the window in the foreground, adding the element of heavy rain. Personally, I feel that focusing on the droplets in the foreground enhances the scene, as the background subject is perceived more as a landscape rather than an individual object.
