Airbnb has announced a new global policy prohibiting the use of indoor security cameras in all accommodations. This change aims to protect guest privacy and simplify the regulations surrounding security cameras.
Strengthening Privacy Protection
Previously, Airbnb allowed the use of indoor cameras in shared spaces of accommodations, provided guests were notified in advance.
However, under the new policy, security cameras are banned in all indoor areas, including bedrooms and bathrooms. This policy update further reinforces privacy for guests, ensuring a more secure and comfortable stay.

Security Measures Move Outdoors
The use of security devices installed outdoors, such as doorbell cameras, exterior cameras, and noise level monitors, will continue to be permitted. However, stricter rules will now apply to these devices as well, requiring hosts to clearly disclose their presence and location to guests prior to booking.

A Transformative Step for Safer Stays
The new policy will take effect from April 30, 2024, and hosts will be given a transition period to comply with the new rules. Airbnb developed this policy update through consultations with guests, hosts, and privacy experts. The company will continue to refine its policies based on ongoing community feedback.
