Visionaries possess an extraordinary curiosity, and they pursue their passions without hesitation. When that curiosity veers off the expected path, a truly otherworldly adventure begins. The gingerbread incident at hand may be the ultimate example.
An Edible Camera Emerges?
Canadian photographer Dmitri Tcherbadji has created an edible, Polaroid-style instant film camera constructed from gingerbread and candy.
This marks the birth of a new category: the Eatable Camera, as opposed to the Portable Camera. This innovative camera features a lens made of sugar and utilizes instant film, allowing for actual photographic capture.
Baking gingerbread designed to the optimal thickness
Tcherbadji struggled to determine the ideal thickness for the gingerbread, but succeeded with advice from his wife. He also added a small screen to test the projection of the sugar lens. While the image quality cannot match that of a conventional glass lens, he remarks, “I’m always thrilled by photographs born from bread and sugar.”

Tasting Event Planned for December
This project cost approximately $220, most of which was spent on Instax film wasted during prototyping. Tcherbadji notes that instant film is ideal for experimentation due to its immediate results, and he expresses gratitude to the Instax Square development team.
In fact, next month in December, he plans to hold a tasting event with friends to eat the camera, and until then, he intends to fully enjoy photographing with gingerbread.

He plans to share updates from the tasting event on his Instagram and blog, so if you’re interested, be sure to check them out!
