In “Read Your Photography,” we turn our attention to the stories behind photographs—the stories that cannot be discovered by looking alone. Alongside works gathered through the Photo Poster Project organized by cizucu and through social media, cizucu Magazine translates the context in which each photograph was created and the personal moments it holds into 12 languages, sharing them with audiences around the world.
Keeping a story close to your heart is one choice. Yet those feelings may quietly touch someone else and inspire an emotion not yet known.
This edition features works by three artists from around the world.
Let us take a gentle look into their one-of-a-kind stories.

In 2020, I photographed an angel wearing golden wings.
Before the shoot, the wings suddenly broke. With the deadline approaching, a friend repaired them, allowing the angel to spread her wings once more.
Taking that experience into account, I feel this work expresses the idea that even when we are broken, we can rise again.
On the day of the shoot, the instant I released the shutter amid the light, her figure was preserved within the photograph.
Then, in the spring of 2026, after six years had passed, this story returned to a place where it could be seen once again.
Freedom is not simply the act of going somewhere else.
Even after regaining the ability to spread your wings, it is also the power to choose, of your own volition, to remain here.
I believe that strength, too, is a form of freedom.

The figure standing by the sea with immense golden wings carries both quiet strength and solitude. Knowing the story of how the broken wings were repaired and made capable of unfolding once more transforms the work from something merely beautiful into a symbol of a being who continues to stand after being wounded. Wings are not only for flying away; they can also become the strength to stand in a place of one’s own choosing. Returning after six years, this photograph reminds us that freedom is not about escape, but about deciding, of one’s own will, to be here.

People often say, “A good photograph is one you want to revisit again and again.”
But to me, an unforgettable photograph is not one that is perfect—it is one that brings me back to who I was in that moment.
There is no person or sweeping landscape in this photograph.
It simply captures the view of a blue sky seen beyond the top of a staircase.
When I released the shutter, I was merely captivated by the beauty of the light.
Only later did I realize something.
What remained with me was not the sky, but “the person I was that day,” looking up at that view.
Life, like this staircase, so often leaves us unable to see what lies ahead.
Even so, if we do not stop moving forward, we will inevitably encounter the light one day.
Whenever I look at this photograph, I remember who I was that day.
If we keep moving forward, beauty will surely be waiting somewhere beyond.

The composition is striking: a square of blue sky and greenery framed at the top of a dark staircase. Although it contains neither a figure nor a momentous event, the presence of that instant of looking upward remains palpable. The uncertainty of ascending stairs without knowing what lies ahead converges with the beauty of the light pouring in from beyond, evoking memories of pausing unexpectedly along the course of life. What the photograph preserves is not only the sky itself, but also the self who looked up at it. This work offers quiet encouragement, reminding us that some views can only be encountered by continuing forward.

Whenever I look at this photograph, I remember the day she chose me.
Would someone as radiant as her accept my feelings?
That was the uncertainty I carried that day.
As I held my camera on Jeju Island and saw her through the viewfinder, standing among the camellia trees, I thought, “Light is not impartial.”
The cascading light seemed to choose her alone, illuminating her figure with extraordinary beauty.
Light does not inherently possess a will; it simply falls where it falls.
And yet, through the lens, she appeared to be someone chosen by the light.
The sight of her overlapped with my memory of the day she chose me.
On the surface, the story is that I confessed my feelings first and chose her.
But in truth, I believe it was the light she radiated that compelled me to choose her.
To darkness, light is something exceptional. We are naturally drawn to it and long to step inside.
She chose me, and I walked into her light.
Whenever I look at this photograph, I remember that day.

The light entering the darkness seems to gently draw a solitary presence into view. Precisely because deep shadow occupies so much of the composition, the colors of the camellias, the greenery, and the presence of the woman standing there feel all the more vivid. True to the words “Light is not impartial,” the illumination in this photograph is accidental, yet it appears to fall as though it has chosen her. Feelings of attraction and memories of choosing and being chosen are quietly held within the contrast between light and shadow.

What did you think?
We want to turn our attention to the qualities that cannot be fully expressed through the visual alone. “Read Your Photography” is an editorial series that considers the thoughts and emotions held within photographs, receiving each work as a story in its own right.
What is pictured is only a fleeting instant. Yet beyond that instant lies time that has undeniably continued to flow, along with emotions that were never put into words.
We invite you to experience each photograph as though reading it—and as though turning the pages of a book.
