Creators who are passionate about photography share their stories with their cameras. The presence of a “beloved camera” often reflects one’s personal philosophy and values. In this series, we feature Rima, who is devoted to the Canon EOS R.
Her encounter with the camera began as a simple way to document her travels. Over time, this evolved into a deeper journey of exploring what makes a “good photograph.” Throughout these subtle changes, the Canon EOS R has always been by her side. What is a “good photograph”? We delve into her journey in search of that answer, alongside her evolving relationship with her camera.
Canon EOS R | Overview
The Canon EOS R debuted in 2018 as Canon’s first full-frame mirrorless camera. Equipped with an approximately 30.3-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and high-precision Dual Pixel CMOS AF, it delivers exceptional resolution and responsive autofocus performance. Its compatibility with mount adapters allows users to utilize their existing EF lens collections, making it a popular choice for those transitioning to mirrorless systems.
Striving for Better Photographs
I started photography simply to document my travels. I wanted to beautifully capture the landscapes I encountered, making photography part of the joy of traveling. With that in mind, I began using an entry-level camera and gradually became captivated by photography itself.

I initially bought a camera for travel, but before long, I found myself going out just to take photographs. As my desire to create better images grew, I became interested in full-frame cameras for their superior image quality. Having used Canon cameras previously and appreciating the comfortable ergonomics, I chose to purchase the Canon EOS R.
Reflecting on What Makes a “Good Photograph”
After switching to the Canon EOS R, I was certainly able to take many “beautiful photographs.” At the same time, I began to realize that “beautiful photographs” and “good photographs” are not necessarily the same.
What does a “good photograph” mean to me? When I thought about it, I realized I wanted to capture images that convey my feelings and stories from my travels.
How can I communicate that? I focus on my subject and composition right up to the moment I press the shutter. While making quick decisions, I also contemplate how I want to portray the scene. Photography became even more enjoyable as a result.

This approach to photography became possible because I started using the Canon EOS R. Its comfortable grip, intuitively placed dials, robust build, and precise autofocus provide a sense of reliability. The clear EVF and LCD allow me to check my images as I shoot. The camera never distracts me from the act of photographing, enabling me to realize the images I envision.
The Canon EOS R has quietly accompanied me through the gradual evolution of my photographic perspective.

A Journey Together
The moments when I immerse myself in photography while traveling are truly precious. Traveling with the Canon EOS R, I face each landscape and contemplate how to capture the “affection” I feel in that moment. In the world of photography, where there is no single answer, this process of trial and error is a journey in itself as I seek my own form of expression.

I hope to continue experiencing the joy of photography through my travels.
