Introduction
'Structure and Chaos' is a global online photo contest organized by cizucu, open to all creators registered on cizucu. The contest curates outstanding submissions, aiming to discover new talent as a platform and to support the community as a whole.
This edition’s theme was ‘Order in Photography’.
A world imbued with order is often recognized as possessing harmonious beauty. We are unconsciously drawn to the comfort of things that are orderly and regular, frequently perceiving them as 'beautiful'.
Conversely, when that order is disrupted, our gaze is inevitably drawn to the disturbance, which can manifest as visual noise or a sense of unease. Yet, many works harness the power of this 'disruption', utilizing discomfort as a form of expression or embedding powerful messages within it.
Will you pursue the beauty of order, or focus on the messages found in its disruption?
Now, let us introduce the submissions and awarded works.

You don’t have to see the whole staircase.
cizucu Editorial Team
This photograph captures a long, stretching staircase. The seemingly endless stairs create an overwhelming sense of order that dominates the frame. The solitary figure with a white umbrella acts as an 'accent' within the composition. By introducing an anomalous element into a geometric pattern, a narrative quality emerges within the inorganic order, inviting viewers to imagine the story before and after the moment captured.

This image captures a row of yellow taxis lined up across a major road at night. The elevated vantage point transforms the roof lights into evenly spaced points of light, evoking a sense of regulated, refined beauty. Everyday scenes of traffic jams or queues, when framed with an emphasis on 'color' and 'form', reveal how the chaos of daily life can be elevated into abstract art through the photographer’s perspective.

Apparently, this is a sanctuary for outdoor units.

This photograph captures the façade of an apartment complex. The windows and air conditioning units are arranged at regular intervals, resembling a massive grid. Within this framework of order, the colors of curtains and the laundry hanging from each window offer glimpses of the residents’ individuality. These elements appear as disruptions within the order, creating a sense of warmth and narrative space, making the work deeply evocative.

Perfectly round in the gap!
cizucu Editorial Team
This photograph captures a cluster of circular pipes of varying sizes. At first glance, the complex patterns evoke a sense of chaos, but upon closer inspection, one notices that everything is composed of geometric 'circles', gradually revealing an underlying order. The monochrome treatment eliminates color noise, accentuating the inherent strength of the circular forms. Unlike the previous work, this piece offers a fresh realization that chaos can also emerge from the accumulation of order.
Conclusion
What did you think?
When photographing objects with geometric designs, often found in urban landscapes, one encounters a refined, inorganic beauty.
On the other hand, capturing subjects closer to human life—people, animals, or nature—broadens the expressive range through the beauty revealed in each moment and the stories that unfold before and after.
Which elements are you, as a creator, most drawn to? What subjects do you tend to choose? This is a great opportunity to reflect on your own sensibilities and the breadth of your creative expression.
This contest received many wonderful submissions beyond those introduced here. We encourage you to explore the entries—surely, new inspiration awaits!
