Blackmagic Design announced the new cinema camera 'Blackmagic PYXIS 12K' at NAB 2025.

This model belongs to the latest in the PYXIS series, featuring the same RGBW sensor as the flagship URSA Cine 12K LF, while offering a compact body rich in flexibility.

Achieving Ultimate Image Expression with the 12K Sensor Inherited from URSA

The sensor in the PYXIS 12K is a full-frame RGBW measuring 36×24mm, with a resolution of 12,288×8,040 pixels. It boasts a size about three times that of a Super 35 sensor, allowing for a three-dimensional image expression with shallow depth of field, and supports anamorphic lenses without cropping. It offers up to 16 stops of dynamic range, producing high-quality, noise-free images regardless of lighting conditions.

This sensor also supports 3:2 open gate and 6:5 true anamorphic formats, enabling high frame rate shooting up to 112fps in 8K and 40fps in 12K.

Flexible Rig Configuration and Portable Design

The body is crafted from aerospace-grade aluminum through CNC precision machining. It features multiple 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch mounts, offering high compatibility with various accessories and rigs. The standard side plate is designed for accessory mounting, making it easy to attach external devices like SSDs, microphones, and smartphones.

Workflow Structure Adapted for the Cloud Era

With synchronization to Blackmagic Cloud, media can be shared in real-time. It records H.264 proxy files simultaneously, and allows cloud uploads using mobile data from a smartphone connected via 10G Ethernet or USB-C. This enables remote editors to start editing immediately in DaVinci Resolve.

Advanced Audio-Visual Capabilities

Video output supports 12G-SDI, allowing for HDR and Ultra HD monitoring. The monitor features a 4-inch high-brightness HDR LCD (1500 nit), ensuring precise framing and focus. Additionally, integration with optional Blackmagic URSA Cine EVF or PYXIS Monitor enhances on-site convenience.

For audio, it includes professional mini XLR inputs (48V phantom power supported), facilitating external microphone recording. It also has a built-in streaming engine, supporting RTMP/SRT streaming to platforms like YouTube and Facebook.
