Nothing was arranged. They simply happened to fall into place — almost the same distance apart, moving in the same direction, following the same narrow path upward. That small sense of order was what caught my attention. Around them, the scene is full of irregular things. Branches grow in every direction. Leaves spill over the walls. Old stone steps have been worn down by time. And yet, for a brief moment, the people seem perfectly arranged within it all. Perhaps photographs sometimes work that way. You do not create the order. You simply notice it before it disappears. A few more steps, and the formation would be gone. During my trip through Vietnam, she was working as a local guide. There was something about her that caught my attention — the traditional dress, the hat, and the way she seemed to belong naturally to the place around her. For a while, I simply watched. Then I gathered enough courage to walk over and ask if I could take her portrait. She said yes. For a few moments, a stranger became my model, and an ordinary encounter during a journey became something I could carry home with me. Travel is often remembered through famous places, food, and landscapes. But sometimes, what stays with us most clearly is a person we met only briefly. I do not know if she remembers this moment. But I do.
